Ben Willshire,
24, from Basingstoke, is one of the team’s main race drivers. Ben, son of RG
Racing team partner Rob Willshire, was a fairly late starter to karting but with
his childhood spent alongside his Dad at various race circuits he soon put his
experience into practice on the circuit. He obtained a 1st class Bsc Honours Degree in Motorsport Technology and Management from the University of Hertfordshire, after studying motorsport engineering at Brooklands College and spending his industrial placement year working for a motorcycle engineering firm. Ben is now employed as an FIA/CiK/FIM race track Design Engineer, under the wing of renowned circuit designer Clive Bowen, at Apex Circuit Design Ltd he is also a director of Apex Motorsport Management
In 2008 Ben will be using a new Anderson chassis with engines tuned by PFP Services (Phil Featherstone). The aim is to use the skills from 2007 and finish in the top 5 of the British Championship.
In 2007 Ben and the team moved to the MSA British Long Circuit Kart Championships run by the BSA. Ben was up to 5th in the championship but due to budget restrictions had to miss come rounds dropping him to 9th by the end of the season. The team were imprested with Bens standard of driving especially when he was racing in the same races as the 250cc 150mph karts which are some 25mph quicker in a straight line. Ben
competed in most of the British championship rounds in
a 125 Anderson Maverick Superkart.

2006 Ben (96 white kart, blue suit) continued to gain experience. Below at Forest Edge working his way through the pack in a wet race. Has dropped some rounds due to Degree exams.

In 2005 Ben concentrated on his education and only did a few events. 2004 saw Ben win the MSA CKC Senior Rotax MAX club championship on his first season in the Rotax class. From here, Ben spent 2005 and 2006 competing in other Rotax club championships whilst studying for his degree however he still finished each season with some wins and podiums.
